Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Brendon McCullum suggested that the skipper Eoin Morgan will get back to his normal form very soon. Morgan has been leading the side well but has had dismal performances with the bat in the IPL 2021 season.

It’s a major point of concern for KKR as they are losing a foreign slot in the hopes that Morgan gets back to his dangerous self. However, McCullum was unfazed about it but reckoned that it would be good to have an international player contribute to the team’s needs.

Morgan is one of our senior players, and he is one of our international batters. As captain also, in his own head he would have liked to contribute a lot more runs. Actually, I think he has captained the side really well tactically. We want some more runs from him. No doubt in that, you need some runs from your overseas batter. Look, I am confident that he will come right,” McCullum said at the post-match virtual press conference.

Speaking about the rising star, Venkatesh Iyer, the KKR head coach had nothing but praise for the 26-year-old. Iyer has been in fine form, scoring two fifties, and has also contributed with the ball. His efforts went in vain last night against Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they defeated KKR by 5 wickets.

Venkatesh Iyer is definitely an all-rounder. It is not just his cricketing ability, it is his mindset and cricketing brain. He is a guy with huge ambition and is great as a general all-rounder. I think he is one of those cricketers, who is going to get better and better.

We played a great game, Punjab Kings deserved to win because they seized the key moments. I still felt we had a chance in the game, with two overs to go. It was a touch and go, small margin in the game, which didn’t go our way,” McCullum concluded.

KKR remains in fourth place despite the loss and will have a chance to cement their place when they go up against bottom-dwellers, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday.
