Rajasthan Royals’ seamer Chetan Sakariya was amongst the uncapped seamers that hugely impressed in IPL 2021. Chetan Sakariya not only troubled the best of the batsmen with the new ball, restricting their scoring in the powerplay, but was also effective in the death. The youngster, who fetched INR 1.2 crores, and picked seven wickets in as many matches, revealed his favourite.
It was none other than Chennai Super Kings’ captain MS Dhoni, who gifted his scalp to Chetan Sakariya in their match at the Wankhede Stadium. Dhoni wanted to belt Sakariya’s ball to the leg-side; however, he got a leading edge that Jos Buttler held safely at extra cover. The left-arm seamer dismissed the veteran for 18 and bagged figures of 4-0-36-3; unfortunately, it was not enough to beat the Super Kings that night.
Chetan Sakariya revealed that he felt happily shocked taking MS Dhoni’s wicket as it felt unreal. The 23-year old said that one should see the video to realize the magnitude of how stunned he was.
“Mahi [Dhoni] bhai’s wicket was my favourite. I was happily shocked. It felt unreal. If you see the video, you will know how shocked I was,” Sakariya told Sportsstar.
I bowled a few good spells to some great batsmen: Chetan Sakariya
The youngster also underlined that there was pressure early on; however, he handled that by bowling some good spells to the batsmen. Sakariya stated that bowling to some of the greats helped develop his confidence and feels he has to improve despite being satisfied with his performances.
“Initially, I felt the pressure but later on, I handled that. I bowled a few good spells to some great batsmen. I never thought I would bowl to them someday. That gave me a lot of confidence. I think I bowled better than I thought I would. I have to improve but I am happy with my performance,” he added.
