Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will start their IPL 2021 journey with their first match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 10, 2021, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. IPL 2021 is going to start one day earlier with the first game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Last season, Chennai Super Kings had a poor show as they finished on the 7th spot on the points table. Ahead of IPL 2021, Chennai Super Kings released 6 players from their squad who were- Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Monu Singh, and Shane Watson.

Chennai Super Kings also bought 6 players during IPL 2021 auction. Krishnappa Gowtham was CSK’s costliest deal at Rs. 9.25 crore. CSK also bought English all-rounder Moeen Ali for Rs. 7 crore. Only 4 overseas players are allowed to play for a team in an IPL match so there is a tough competition. Here we look at 4 overseas players of Chennai Super Kings who might be benched throughout IPL 2021.\

IPL 2021: 4 Overseas Players Of Chennai Super Kings Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Season

Josh Hazlewood

The reason why Josh Hazlewood might be benched by Chennai Super Kings throughout IPL 2021 is that he is a Test specialist. The Australian pacer also has very little experience in T20Is as he has only played 9 matches so far. In IPL too, he has only played 3 matches in the last season. Josh took only 1 wicket and wasn’t that impressive. So, Josh Hazlewood is one overseas player who might be benched in IPL 2021.

Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner is another player who might be benched by Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021. The New Zealand cricketer is a spinner and Chennai Super Kings have a great spinner in the form of Imran Tahir. Tahir was the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2021. Moreover, Chennai Super Kings also have all-rounders like Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Suresh Raina who act as secondary spinners in the team. In IPL 2019, Santner only played 4 matches and in IPL 2020, he only played 2 matches for CSK. So he might be benched by CSK in IPL 2021 too.

Lungi Ngidi

Due to the availability of Dwayne Bravo and a good form of Shardul Thakur, Lungi Ngidi might be overlooked as a pacer in the matches. Lungi Ngidi is a pace bowler from South Africa. Ngidi played 7 matches for CSK in IPL 2018 which was reduced to only 4 games in IPL 2020. So he is another overseas player whom CSK might drop during IPL 2021 matches.

Moeen Ali

Chennai Super Kings have two overseas all-rounders in the squad. One is Moeen Ali and the other is Sam Curran, both of whom are English players. If Chennai Super Kings give chance to Sam Curran and he emerges to be a star performer for Chennai Super Kings, the team might choose him over Moeen Ali.

Since both players share the same profile of an overseas all-rounder, only one of them might get a chance in the playing 11. So Moeen Ali might have to sit outside if Sam Curran became a permanent member in the playing 11.
