Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, have been fierce competitors for a long time and they have played some very interesting games over the years in the history of the IPL tournament. They have given a lot of memories for the fans out there with some match-winners in both their squads.

The IPL 2021 was the best example as a humdinger of a match that took place in the first phase in India between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. The Mumbai Indians won the first encounters and the second phase in UAE is expected to start with the exciting return fixture between these two teams.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings played the all-important finals of the 2019 IPL season and the Men in Blue side won the toss and chose to bat. Kieron Pollard starred for the batting side with 41 off 25 balls from the middle order and he hit three sixes and three fours in the innings. Deepak Chahar’s 3 for 26 restricted Mumbai Indians to a paltry score of 149 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs quota.

Chennai Super Kings started with the innings brilliantly with Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson firing at all ends. Du Plessis’s wicket saw Chennai stuttering and Watson had to bind the innings together at one end. Watson’s 80 off 59 with eight fours and four sixes kept CSK in the game and Lasith Malinga’s excellent last over made sure Mumbai needed 2 off 1 ball. Shardul Thakur was dismissed LBW on the last ball by Malinga with a slower yorker and it won the fourth cup for the Mumbai Indians by just one run.

Chennai Super Kings were in great form coming into this game with an unbeaten streak of five games in IPL 2021 and CSK managed to put up a big total on the board. Faf du Plessis’s half-century and Moeen Ali’s 58, set up the likes of Ambati Rayudu’s scintillating 72 off just 27 balls. CSK posted 218 for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs quota.

Mumbai Indians started off well but were down to 81 for the loss of 3 wickets in the 10th over and had a huge responsibility. Pollard came into the crease with 87 off 34 balls with eight sixes and six fours and took the game apart from the Chennai Super Kings. Mumbai won the game in the end with four wickets in hand.

2018 1st Match, Mumbai:

In the first game of the 2018 IPL, Mumbai Indians lost the toss and had to bat first and they did manage to put up a decent score on the board. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’, the 40s led to a late fire from Krunal Pandya who hit 41 off 22 at the back end of the innings. Mumbai finished with 165 for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs quota.

Chennai Super Kings in the chase faltered early and were down to 118 for 8 wickets at the 17th over mark. Dwayne Bravo revived the chase with an excellent 68 off 30 balls but he was dismissed at the end of the 19th over with 6 to win off the final over.

Kedar Jadhav, who had been retired hurt came into the crease for the final wicket and hit Mustafizur for boundaries to win the game by just one wicket. The victory meant a lot to the CSK fans as it was the first game in IPL after a break of 2 years for the CSK side.
