Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Mohammad Kaif was impressed with openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan for giving a brisk start as they hunted down 189 against Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2021 season opener. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan both hit half-centuries to give the Capitals a thrilling start to their tournament. Mohammad Kaif tweeted that the openers hunted in pair to provide the required start to their edition.

Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw played flawlessly in their season opener against the Chennai Super Kings by building a 138-run stand. The former hit 85 off 54 deliveries, while Shaw made 72 off 38 balls to launch their chase in style. Both the batsmen departed after putting the match in the Capitals’ pocket before captain Rishabh Pant finished things off.

Delhi Capitals’ new-ball bowling pair started off incredibly well by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis cheaply. Suresh Raina made a half-century on his return and shared half-century stands with Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu. Later, Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja provided the flourish to lift the Super Kings to 188 in 20 overs. Unfortunately, MS Dhoni’s men lacked the discipline while bowling and fielding.

Mohammad Kaif took to his official Twitter handle and underlined that they did miss Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje alongside Prithvi Shaw’s red-hot form. He lauded both Dhawan and Shaw for playing incredibly well, along with the bowlers and Rishabh Pant to deliver a solid start to the competition for the Delhi Capitals. The Capitals would likely welcome Anrich Nortje to the side for the next match, while it’s unclear when Axar Patel would be available for selection as he tested positive for COVID-19. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer would miss the entire tournament due to the shoulder injury.
