The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has alerted all the teams involved in the IPL 2021 that their players traveling in from the UK will undergo mandatory six-day quarantine. Unlike England, the UAE has strict bio-bubbles in place for the cricketers.

On Friday, the fifth Test in Manchester between England and India was canceled owing to the covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. As a result, the BCCI decided to impose almost a week’s isolation to make sure the players haven’t contracted the virus. Even if they return negative test results, the incubation period of the virus is quite long so the BCCI is trying to cover its bases.

The BCCI has informed us that every player coming in from UK to UAE will have to undergo six days of quarantine before they can join the team bubbles. Obviously, the bubble to bubble transfer from UK to UAE no longer stands keeping in mind the current scenario,” an official said to ANI.

IPL franchises arranging charter flights for their players

The IPL 2021 begins on September 19 and the franchises are making sure their players complete the mandatory quarantine by then. The cancelation of the Manchester Test made it easier for them and the teams have begun arranging charter flights for their players.

Yes, we have arranged a charter flight for Virat [Kohli] and [Mohammed] Siraj, both of them will be flying out at 11:30 PM UK time on Saturday and they will reach Dubai early Sunday morning. Safe transit of players is the utmost priority for RCB. They will undergo 6-day quarantine there before joining the team bubble,” an RCB source said.

Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), was keen on bringing in Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Cheteshwar Pujara to Dubai by Saturday. “Now that the Test match is off, we are looking to get the CSK boys into Dubai tomorrow,” he told on Friday.

The IPL 2021 was postponed in April after a covid-19 outbreak in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp. It was rescheduled from September 19 – October 15 and will be completed in the UAE. CSK and reigning champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), will battle it out in the first game post-resumption.
