The IPL has been rewarding for most of the players with a lot of awards and the cash-rich league has never failed to pick the man of the match for their impressive performances. The players have been training immensely to be effective enough in the IPL and the man of the match award will mean a lot to their hard work.

There are times when a player who has scored the most runs does not get the man of the match award and the reason being the impact he created has been comparatively lesser than the player who gets the man of the match award. Here are five players with the most man-of-the-match awards in the tournament.

MS Dhoni – 17

MS Dhoni has played 204 IPL games so far which is the most by any player and looks set for another exciting IPL season coming up on April 9. He averages 41 with the bat in IPL and has hit 23 fifties so far in his IPL career. He is one of the best One-day internationals batsmen India has ever produced.

The legendary batsman has been one of the best finishers in world cricket in the last fifteen years and has always taken the game until the last over to put the pressure on the bowlers. The captain cool has won 17 Man of the Match awards so far and is fifth on the list.

David Warner’s IPL numbers have been staggering and he has captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad to a title win in 2016. He has been the mainstay of the batting ever since he has come into the Sunrisers team and has never failed to take on the bowlers. He has four IPL centuries already and he will be hungry for more.

Warner has played 142 IPL games and has scored 5254 runs at an average of 42.7 and a strike rate of 141.5. He has been brilliant over the years and has taken responsibility for the team to take them over the line. He has won 17 Man of the match awards equalling MS Dhoni’s record but has done in far more games lesser and is fourth on the list.

Rohit Sharma – 18

Rohit Sharma has been captaining the Mumbai Indians side brilliantly so far ever since he has taken over the reins and he has scored consistently after moving to the top of the order. He started his IPL career with Deccan Charger in the middle order and moved to his stateside Mumbai Indians where he has found the maximum success.

Rohit has been the most successful captain in the history of IPL with five IPL titles already. He has played 200 IPL games so far scoring 5230 runs at an average of 31.3. He has hit 1 century and 39 half-centuries so far. He stands third on the list of players with the most man-of-the-match awards as he has won 18 awards already.

Chris Gayle – 22

The West Indies batsman Chris Gayle is expected to feature in most of the IPL records and has been phenomenal so far in the tournament. He is one of the best T20 players going around in the world and still expected to make it to the international side for the T20 World Cup this year.

Gayle has played 132 IPL games scoring 4772 runs at an average of 41.1 so far. He has a career strike rate of 150 in the IPL and made an immediate impact after being selected in the playing XI for the Punjab franchise last year. He is second on the list of players with the man of the match awards and has bagged it 22 times.

AB Devilliers – 23

AB Devilliers has been a key player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise and has produced plenty of knocks that had positively impacted their results. Coming down the order, RCB has lacked the role of a finisher and Devilliers had to bat alongside the inexperienced middle order and take the team home on most occasions.

Devilliers had played 169 IPL games so far scoring 4849 runs at an average of 40.4. His overall strike rate has been in excess of 150 and has hit three IPL centuries and 38 half-centuries. He has won 23 Man of the match so far which is the most by any player in IPL history and he deserves to be on the top.
