Rajasthan Royals (RR) were victorious in the 32nd match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday, September 21. The Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals defeated KL Rahul’s Punjab Kings by 2 runs in the nail-biting encounter to clinch the victory. Meanwhile, Kartik Tyagi was awarded man of the match for his exceptional performance.
Both the teams entered the tournament with several changes in the squad. On one side Punjab Kings were forced to add Nathan Ellis, Aiden Markram and Adil Rashid to the jumbo squad. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals missed their top overseas players and they included Evin Lewis, Tabraiz Shamsi, Oshane Thomas and Glenn Phillips.
Earlier in the match, Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost the toss and they were invited by KL Rahul and co. to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings with destructive West Indies opener Evin Lewis and provided an excellent start to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise. The opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Evin Lewis added 54 runs for the first wicket.
However, after that Rajasthan Royals (RR) batting unit struggled a little, as they lost the wickets of Evin Lewis and Sanju Samson. Explosive English batsman Liam Livingstone showed some form but was dismissed at the score of 25. The struggle was not over yet Yashasvi Jaiswal also got out at 49. However, Mahipal Lomror’s 43 runs cameo assured Rajasthan Royals (RR) to reach a good total of 185.
During the chase, Punjab Kings (PBKS) had an outstanding outcome in the beginning as KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal had a century partnership. After they got out Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran had a half-century partnership, still they were unable to chase the target.
“This feels really good”: Kartik Tyagi after winning player of the match award
Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Kartik Tyagi was given the big responsibility by captain Sanju Samson to bowl the final over of the match.
Kartik Tyagi started the over with a dot ball followed by one run in the second ball. Notably, then, PBKS needed 3 runs off 4 balls to win the match. In his 3rd ball, Kartik Tyagi dismissed explosive batter Nicholas Pooran. After that Tyagi delivered one more dot ball to Deepak Hooda and bagged his wicket in the very next ball. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) needed 3 runs in the last ball and that too was a dot.
The young speedster pulled out an unexpected final over and deserved every bit of player of the match award. In the post-match presentation, Kartik Tyagi told that he is very fortunate to play a big role in Rajasthan Royals’ victory. Also, he revealed that earlier in the innings he was bowling short balls. However, he worked on it after getting feedback.
“I was injured during the India leg of the IPL and by the time I got fit, the tournament was suspended. Felt sad. So this feels really good. I have been talking to people over the years and they keep telling me that things keep changing in this format, so I need to keep believing. I’ve always heard from everyone and also watched games in this format where strange things have happened. “
” Today, I was fortunate to play a big role in something special. I was bowling a bit too short earlier, later worked on it consciously after getting a lot of feedback.” added Tyagi.
