IPL 2021: If I Had Half The Skills As Ravichandran Ashwin Does, I Would Do Much Better – Axar Patel

Axar Patel feels that if he had half the skills as his Delhi Capitals (DC) teammate Ravichandran Ashwin he would have been a much better bowler.

The spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has played a big role in the success of the Delhi Capitals (DC). Both Axar and Ashwin are capable of getting crucial breakthroughs for the team and are dependable lower-order batters.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 Axar Patel has picked 15 wickets in 10 games at an average of 16.73 and an economy of 6.43. On the other hand, Ashwin has bagged 5 wickets and scored 44 runs. Also both the spinners will feature in the marquee T20 World Cup 2021 event as they have been named in India’s 15-member squad.

In an exclusive interview with TOI Axar Patel was asked how is it like bowling with Ashwin to which Axar replied :

“Ash is a man with a different kind of mindset. He is more academic. If I had half the skills as he does, I would do much better.“

The 27-year-old praised Ashwin and said he thinks really deep and has and has a variety of plans for different batters.

” I try to pick how his mind works in different situations. He has different plans for every batter. Bahut hi deep thinking karta hain. (He thinks really deep).”

I Don’t Ask Ravichandran Ashwin To Teach The Variations He Has – Axar Patel

The left-arm spinner told that he talks with Ashwin on how to deal with the batter who picks him well but don’t ask about him to teach the variety of variations he has. Axar asserted:

” I talk to him about how to deal with a batter who is picking me really well. I don’t ask him to teach the variations he has. We talk more about setting the field and mindset.”

The spin duo of Axar and Ashwin will be seen in action in the knockouts stage when Delhi Capitals (DC) will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1 at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
