Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar feels his team can turn around things under Kane Williamson’s captaincy in the UAE leg of IPL 2021.
SRH had a dismal season in the first phase of IPL 2021, where they could only register one win from the seven matches they played and are present at the bottom of the points table.
The poor results forced the franchise to bring back Kane Williamson as the team’s captain in place of Australia’s David Warner. Williamson had led the franchise to IPL final in 2018 in Warner’s absence and Bhuvneshwar was named the New Zealand player’s deputy.
Yes, we are not in a good position currently but I don’t see any reason why can’t we turn around things: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar said that he hopes to see changes and turnaround for SRH in the second phase of IPL 2021.
“When I came to know of IPL moving to Dubai for the 2nd leg, the first thing that came to my mind was what happened to me last year. But of course, I want to forget that part and move on from that. Yes, we are not in a good position currently but I don’t see any reason why can’t we turn around things. Kane led us wonderfully in 2018, so hoping things get better for us in 2nd leg of IPL,” Bhuvneshwar said on Sunrisers Hyderabad’s YouTube channel.
I am sure that everyone is looking forward to bouncing back: VVS Laxman
Former Indian batsman and Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor VVS Laxman accepted that SRH didn’t do well in the first part of the tournament but is pretty sure that the team will bounce back.
“I am hoping that we play with the same mindset going into the remaining part of this IPL. Yes, we didn’t have a great start in India, but I am sure with the quality and the talent we possess in the team, I am sure that everyone is looking forward to bouncing back. I am eagerly waiting,” Laxman said.
Bhuvneshwar played in five matches and picked only three wickets in IPL 2021. SRH will resume their campaign against table-toppers Delhi Capitals at Dubai International Stadium on September 22.
