IPL 2021: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Share Update On Nitish Rana’s COVID-19 Tests

The two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), ahead of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), have shared an update on their batsman Nitish Rana, who had tested positive for the Coronavirus after reporting for the training camp.

The KKR will open their IPL 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Chennai on April 11. The IPL 2021 will be played from April 9 onwards and the matches will be hosted across six cities in India. These six cities are Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad will also host the playoffs and the final of the tournament, which will be played on May 30.

We Are Glad To Report That Nitish Rana Has Tested Negative: Kolkata Knight Riders

As per the KKR statement, released on Twitter, Nitish Rana had checked in the KKR training camp on March 21 have tested negative for the COVID-19. However, during his stay in the quarantine, he returned a positive test for the deadly virus on March 22 and went into self-isolation as per the IPL COVID protocols.

“Nitish Rana had checked into the KKR team hotel in Mumbai, on March 21, 2021, with a negative COVID report which was done on March 19, 2021. As per IPL protocol, he was tested on March 22, during his quarantine and the report showed that he was positive,” the statement read.

Nitish Rana had a very good IPL 2020 edition for the KKR. He scored 352 runs in 14 matches of the tournament at an average of 25.14. More importantly, Rana has scored more than 300 runs in each of the last four IPL seasons.

“He has had no symptoms and has been completely asymptomatic since. Again as per IPL protocol, he isolated himself and was tested again today. We are glad to report that he has tested negative. We expect him to start training with the team shortly and be fully fit well before the start of the season,” the KKR statement read.

Rana, the left-handed batsman has played 60 matches in the Indian Premier League, making 1437 runs at an average of 28.17 and strike-rate of 135.36.
