MS Dhoni has won the toss and elected to bat first in the first game of the UAE leg of IPL 2021 against Mumbai Indians. Kieron Pollard will lead MI as Rohit Sharma misses out. The match takes place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as the IPL 2021 is set to resume, in the UAE, after being suspended in May mid-season due to the covid-19 outbreak.

Mumbai Indians defeated MS Dhoni’s side in their previous meeting, in Delhi on May 1, courtesy of a whirlwind knock of 87 runs off 34 balls by Kieron Pollard helping his side chase down 219 on the last ball of the game.

Mumbai Indians also hold a strong head-to-head record against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, with 19 wins from 31 encounters between the two sides. They have also defeated CSK thrice in the IPL final.

MS Dhoni: “Looks like a good surface. Better to put runs on the board. Once tournament starts, you get into some sort of rhythm but this season its new, and maybe us cricketers will start loving it: seven games, a break, and then seven more. It comes down to how you play on that day in the shortest form, so we’ll try to keep the basics right. Faf, Moeen, Bravo, Hazlewood are the four foreigners.”

Kieron Pollard: “We weren’t too sure about the toss, but good thing is we can’t be criticised for something we cannot do. Rohit is okay, we will see him sooner rather than later. He’s the captain of this ship, I’m just standing in. We were just starting to get our momentum before the break. This is the most important part of the stage. No Hardik along with Rohit. Anmolpreet makes his debut.”
