Mumbai Indians (MI) superstar Suryakumar Yadav cheekily reminded Chennai Super Kings (CSK) of the big threat Kieron Pollard poses against them. The Mumbai franchise released a video on its social media ahead of the IPL 2021 resumption where Suryakumar made the statement.

The 14th edition of the IPL is all set to resume on the 19th of September in UAE. MI takes on CSK in what is termed as the IPL’s ‘El Clasico’. The two teams are currently placed in second and fourth spots, looking set to qualify for the playoffs.

Ahead of the big match, MI posted a video where the players are asked their opinion on CSK in one word. Plenty of players said MS Dhoni and so on but Suryakumar took the name of his teammate Pollard.

Reason for Suryakumar Yadav’s cheeky comment

The West Indian has an enviable record against the Dhoni-led side. In 25 matches, he has scored 554 runs at an average close to 40. His strike rate is in the mid 170s while also performing well with the ball. Pollard has picked up 14 wickets against the three-time champions.

In the first match back in May, Pollard single-handedly led Mumbai’s chase of 219 against CSK. He amassed 87 runs off just 34 balls including six fours and eight massive sixes. He also picked his best figures against MI in the same match, dismissing Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina to end with figures of 2/12.

Going into the 31st match of the league at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the onus will once again be on the Windies all-rounder and Suryakumar Yadav. MI has recorded four wins in seven games so far, just above Rajasthan Royals.

CSK on the other hand is sitting comfortably in second place, having won five out of their seven games so far. They have looked like the most complete team in the first half and will look to continue their form when the season resumes. The Chennai side will be without their two trusted foreign players, du Plessis and Sam Curran.
