IPL 2021: Parthiv Patel Believes The Covid-19 Break Will Affect RCB and CSK The Most
Former Indian player Parthiv Patel feels the postponement of the IPL 2021 will affect teams like RCB and CSK the most. His assumption is based on the fact that the two South Indian teams will be under pressure to perform as well as they did in the first half.
IPL 2021 is all set to resume in two weeks’ time. The teams are gearing up and have begun preparations in the UAE. Many players will be coming into the tournament without any match practice. They will find it hard to get the ball rolling right from the get-go, as per Parthiv.
“Definitely. I think there would be jitters in CSK’s mind, there would be jitters in RCB’s min. You know we’re talking about teams like CSK, they wanted games behind their back.”
“Someone like Dhoni, like Raina, like Rayudu, like Robin Uthappa, they’re not playing cricket throughout the year but they were just getting into the groove and they got this break,” the 36-year-old said.
Parthiv Patel believes the break would have served the mid-table teams well
While the top 3 spots are occupied by Delhi Capitals (DC), CSK, and RCB, the teams in the mid-table will benefit the most, according to Parthiv. Since the lower half had a poor start to the IPL 2021, the break gives them a chance to rethink their strategy and come back with a fresh mindset.
“And teams like RCB you know, they need that momentum to start the tournament which they had. So I think these are the two teams which would be thinking ‘Oh okay, we’ll go again and start from scratch’.“
“This break for teams which are at 4,5,6 – they would be thinking that they have a chance to come back and teams who are in 2nd or 3rd would be thinking that they have to start well again,” Parthiv Patel concluded.
The season will resume on September 19 with a clash between CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI) getting things underway. It will be spread across three major venues – Sharjah (10 games), Dubai (13 games), Abu Dhabi (8 games).
