SunRisers Hyderabad spinner Rashid Khan is not overly concerned by the loss in their opening game of IPL 2021 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. SunRisers Hyderabad did not have a particularly bright start to their campaign as they fell ten runs short of Kolkata Knight Riders’ first-innings score of 187. Rashid Khan opined that they played a good game overall and is confident of bouncing back.

Kolkata Knight Riders started strongly as Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill built a 53-run opening stand. Nitish Rana anchored the innings with 80 off 56 balls and added 93 off only 50 deliveries with Rahul Tripathi. While SunRisers Hyderabad pulled began pulling things back by removing Rana, Tripathi, Andre Russell, and Eoin Morgan quickly, Dinesh Karthik death-over burst lifted them to 187.

Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 4-0-24-2. SunRisers suffered early blows in the form of Wriddhiman Saha and David Warner as they perished cheaply; however, Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey added 92 runs in no time to put the chase back on track. But after Bairstow’s departure for 52, Manish Pandey could not produce the big hits as frequently required.

We just need to do the right things and have self-belief: Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan asserted that the SunRisers played exceptionally well and did most of the things right in their narrow defeat. The Afghan-born spinner believes that it’s only their first game and they would derive the positives out of it to move on to the next. Rashid Khan remains confident that SunRisers can beat any team in this tournament and only need to have self-belief, along with expressing their skills.

We played really well. As a bowling unit, we bowled well, as a batting unit, we batted well. But it was a matter of 10 runs in the end. We gave our 100 per cent and it was also the first game of the tournament. We had a good game, bowling and batting were good. We will take the positives from the game and move on to the next game against Bangalore. We just need to do the right things and have self-belief. We are capable of any team in this competition. We have a strong squad and have the ability in each and every department. We just need to go there and express our skills,” Khan said as quoted by ANI.
