Imran Tahir, the Chennai Super Kings leg-spinner, has said that he takes inspiration from teammate Ravindra Jadeja to get better as a fielder.

At the age of 42, Imran Tahir isn’t a swift fielder – although he runs really quick after taking a wicket – however, he understands the importance of fielding in the shortest formats and hence looks up to Ravindra Jadeja, who is considered arguably the best fielder in the world.

The Protea spinner revealed that he does fiddling practice sometimes when no one is watching! In a chat with Ravindra Jadeja, Tahir revealed it after CSK’s win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday, where he prowled at square leg to affected a direct-hit run out of Kyle Jamieson.

“Main bhi chhupke fielding karta hoon jab humare net hote hain! (I secretly practice my fielding during the nets). I know this is professional cricket, no one can hide on the field. You are in our team, you attack the ball like lightning.

“I also want to be electric in the field, you inspire youngsters and me as well. Looking at you guys, I try to do my best whenever I am playing,” Imran Tahir said in a chat with the all-rounder in a video posted on the IPL’s website.

I didn’t expect to connect five times: Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja was everywhere against RCB and displayed one of the greatest all-rounder performances in the IPL. Before taking 3/13, and affecting a run-out, he smashed 62 runs off 28 deliveries, including 5 sixes in a 37-run last over bowled by Harshal Patel, the Purple Cap holder currently.

The 32-year-old says that since he was tired of running a lot in his innings he decided to swing at everything – and he connected so well, that even he was surprised with his assault in the last over.

“I was very tired before the last over, because I had run a lot of twos before it. When Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) came in the last over, I told him that I will swing my bat at everything because I was very tired and it was really humid.

“I planned to swing as hard as I can and get the connection. I didn’t expect to connect five times! I am very happy because it helped us win,” Ravindra Jadeja said.

With their 4th win 5 matches, MS Dhoni’s side takes the numero uno spot on the points table. They travel to Delhi and will next meet the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.
