Kolkata Knight Riders speedster Shivam Mavi bagged the Man of the Match award for his four-wicket haul against the Rajasthan Royals in Sharjah on Thursday as KKR won by 86 runs. His figures of 4/21 are now his best bowling performance in the IPL.
Speaking about his plan, Shivam Mavi said that he wanted to bowl tight lines and not give room to the RR batters. The plan was vindicated as three of his four wickets were bowled with the low bounce posing more problems for the batsmen.
He dismissed the RR skipper Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Glenn Phillips, and Rahul Tewatia.
“I feel really good to do well on this wicket. The plan was to bowl wicket to wicket and to not give room because of the low bounce,” Shivam Mavi said the post-match presentation.
I have learnt a lot here at KKR: Shivam Mavi
This was Shivam Mavi’s sixth game of the season; he has been in and out of the team, but now has performed really well as a supporting pacer to Lockie Ferguson replacing Prasidh Krishna.
The 22-year-old has been at KKR since 2018. He has learned the art of fast bowling while mixing it up with a change of pace at the franchise.
“When I was playing under-19, you need to keep learning. I learnt how to use the slower ball, when to bowl the yorker, I have learnt a lot here at KKR. I liked Dube’s wicket. Feels nice to get wicket LBW or bowled as a bowler,” the young pacer added.
This massive victory means that KKR have all but sealed their playoff spot considering the big gap between their and Mumbai Indians’ net run rate.
