Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) were victorious in their second match of the season against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 47th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Saturday, October 2.

Rajasthan Royals showed a completely different and outstanding intent in batting and were able to clinch the victory by the margin of 7 wickets.

The Sanju Samson-led side were coming from a loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). On the other hand, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings emerged victorious in their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to field first. The Sanju Samson-led side made 5 changes in the playing XI they dropped Mahipal Lomror, Liam Livingstone, Riyan Parag, Kartik Tyagi and Chris Morris and added Shivam Dube, Glenn Phillips, Akash Singh, David Miller and Mayank Markande.

Chennai Super Kings also made a couple of changes as they bought KM Asif and Sam Curran for Deepak Chahar and Dwyane Bravo.

Losing the toss and batting first, the Chennai Super Kings opening duo of Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a terrific start. They managed to add 47 runs before Rahul Tewatia dismissed Faf du Plessis. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina’s poor form continued despite batting at number 3 he was able to score only 3 runs.

At the end with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s marvellous century and Ravindra Jadeja’s excellent cameo helped Chennai post 189 runs on board.

Chasing the big target of 190 runs Rajasthan Royals (RR) openers Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal went berserk against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling unit during the powerplay. In just 32 balls they added 77 runs with Evin Lewis contributing 27 runs off 12 balls and Yashasvi Jaiswal contributing 50 from 20 deliveries.

However, West Indies powerhouse Evin Lewis got out in 5.2th over and Yashasvi Jaiswal was sent back to the pavilion by KM Asif in 6.1th over.

Later, Skipper Sanju Samson joined forces with Shivam Dube and Dube started playing aggressive strokes and looked like an unstoppable force. Shivam also completed his half-century in no time. In the end, Shivam Dube and Glenn Phillips led Rajasthan Royals towards a 7-wicket victory and have gained two valuable points to keep their hopes alive for play-off qualification.
