IPL 2021: Updated Points Table, Orange Cap, And Purple Cap Table After MI vs KKR

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious over the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday in match 34 of IPL 2021. Blazing fifties by Venkatesh Iyer (53 off 30 balls) and Rahul Tripathi (74*off 42) set up KKR’s chase of 156.

Chasing this kind of a target can be tricky, but KKR openers Shubman Gill and Iyer had no nerves whatsoever as both of them launched Trent Boult, who is arguably the best new-ball bowler, for a six each in the first over.

Iyer, who had scored 41 off 27 on his debut versus RCB, carried on the attack in the second over to Adam Milne, scoring a maximum and two more fours. KKR were 30/0 in just 2 overs. Rohit Sharma called upon his main man, Jasprit Bumrah, and the pacer delivered, castling Gill with a slower ball.

Rahul Tripathi joined Iyer and both continued on with the momentum to finish the powerplay at 63/1. The power-hitting from the pair didn’t relent even with the field restrictions uplifted; the left-hander brought up his fifty off 25 balls and then the right-hander off 29 balls. Bumrah returned to bowl out Iyer but by then the batsman had put his side on the brink of a victory.

Earlier, Eoin Morgan had won the toss, elected to bowl first and started off with 4 overs of spin The returning Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Quinton de Kock were cautious in the first couple of those overs before Sharma showed intent with attacking shots.

He hit a flurry of boundaries to go past 20 before de Kock disdainfully hammered three sixes off Lockie Ferguson and Prasidh Krishna to cap off a 56-run powerplay.

MI lost Rohit (33 off 30) in the 10th over followed by Suryakumar Yadav (5 off 10) in the 13th. De Kock, on the other end, ticked the scoreboard and raised his second half-century of the season before falling to a slower delivery from Krishna for a 42-ball 55.

Ishan Kishan’s scratchy 13-ball stay for 14 runs ended when he fell to the high pace of Ferguson and MI’s innings stumbled. After that, Kieron Pollard (21 off 15) and Krunal Pandya (12 off 8), with the help of some lusty blows, managed to take Mumbai over 150.
