On the fourth ball of the 19th over during MI’s innings, Russell delivered a brilliant 141 kph toe-crushing yorker as Kieron Pollard was setting up for a big slog. The ball caught him off-guard to which his only instinctive reaction was to leave it widening his legs.
Luckily for Kieron Pollard, the ball didn’t hit the leg-stump and only went through between his legs. This left the commentators in laughter.
That escape did help Pollard much as he could make only one run after that and got run out in the last over.
KKR slam MI with a 7-wicket win
Eoin Morgan’s side delivered a thumping 7-wicket win on Thursday. After being 56/0 at the end of the powerplay, and 77/0 at the 9-over mark, Mumbai could manage only 155 in 20 overs.
The target was chased down comfortably by the KKR batters – there were left with 29 balls to spare – courtesy of blazing fifties from Venkatesh Iyer (53 off 30 balls) and Rahul Tripathi (74*off 42). It was Sunil Narine who bagged the Player Of The Match award for his figures of 1/20 where he tied down the MI batters.
MI have now slipped to the 6th position in the points table while KKR have entered the top four. Mumbai will travel back to Dubai to take on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. Kolkata will stay in Abu Dhabi where they will take on the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday afternoon.
