Delhi Capitals (DC) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was absolutely delighted on taking the wicket of Eoin Morgan, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper, for a duck on Tuesday in Sharjah.
During the 12th over of KKR’s innings, Ravichandran Ashwin had Morgan nicking off to Lalit Yadav, who was stationed at slip. A slightly shorter delivery around the off-stump from round the wicket angle from the off-spinner pushed the left-hander on the backfoot as he attempted to punch it straight.
However, the ball took the outside edge of the bat and was comfortably taken by Yadav. The bowler’s celebration – screaming in joy while running by the side of Morgan – said all about his elation of taking the wicket of Morgan, with whom he had had an argument earlier.
During the Capitals’ innings there was a heated altercation between KKR’s Tim Southee, Eoin Morgan with Ravichandran Ashwin. The Kiwi pacer had some words to say after dismissing Ashwin. The off-spinner stormed towards Tim Southee for a discussion. He then had a go at the KKR skipper as well before Dinesh Karthik managed to cool things down.
KKR lose 4 but ahead in the chase
Chasing a low total of 128, Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill started off in an aggressive fashion once again with a couple of boundaries and a six in the first couple of overs before Lalit Yadav accounted for the left-hander.
The attacking instincts weren’t being deterred as Rahul Tripathi smacked his first ball for a maximum but soon fell to Avesh Khan. KKR finished the powerplay at 44/2.
Nitish Rana joined Gill and both put up a 24-run stand in 31 balls before the right-hander holed out in the deep off Kagiso Rabada, before R Ashwin send back Eoin Morgan for a duck, as DC stormed back in the game. Rana, however, brought KKR further again with two sixes off Lalit Yadav in the 14th over. At the time of writing, KKR are 96/4 at the 14-over mark.
