Delhi Capitals have been forced under more pressure as captain Rishabh Pant had been deceived by some clever bowling from Rajasthan Royals pacer Mustafizur Rahman during their clash on Saturday afternoon in Abu Dhabi.
On the fourth ball of the 12th over of Captials’ innings, Mustafizur sent down another of his cutters, but kept the length short this time; Rishabh Pant, who hasn’t been at his best today, attempted a powerful pull on it.
However, he was early into the shot, failing to tackle the slow pace of the surface. The left-hander under-edged the ball and it crashed into his sticks, ending his 24-ball 24-run knock, which, although bailed DC out of early trouble, left the side needing more from the skipper.
Delhi Capitals stutter losing 4 wickets
After being put in to bat first by Sanju Samson, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw found it difficult to get going – they managed just a single boundary in the first three overs – as the Royals’ bowlers adjusted nicely to the surface in Abu Dhabi which was uncharacteristic to how it had been so far.
The left-hander fell to Kartik Tyagi for 8 off 8 in the fourth over before Shaw (10 off 12) followed him back next over, courtesy of some smart change of pace from Chetan Sakariya. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, the current captain and the former captain, picked up the innings with occasional boundaries before the latter turned aggressor smacking the RR spinners Rahul Tewatia and Tabraiz Shamsi for maximums.
The skipper was bowled by Mustafizur Rahman in the 12th over. A couple of overs later, Iyer (43 off 32) was stumped sharply by Samson after missing a Rahul Tewatia delivery. At the time of writing, Delhi are 92/4 at the end of 14 overs. It is onto Lalit Yadav, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel to provide the impetus to the innings towards the end.
A victory for the Capitals on Saturday will take them to the top of the table once again and also seal their berth for the playoffs. The Royals will enter the top four if they win over Delhi.
