Glenn Maxwell bagged the Man of the Match award for his superb all-round display on Sunday against the Mumbai Indians (MI) helping his side, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), register a massive 54-run win in Dubai.
Harshal Patel snapped a hat-trick and Yuzvendra Chahal picked a three-for as MI collapsed from 57/0 to 111 all-out while chasing 166.
The Australian all-rounder blasted 56 runs off 37 balls; he stroked six fours and 3 sixes, including two huge maximums via reverse sweeps or switch hits, something which, he says, he has worked over for a long time and has “become a strength for me”. Virat Kohli’s 51 off 42 and KS Bharat’s 32 off 24 set the platform for the Australian.
“It was a nice day. We pretty much did everything right tonight. Virat and KS got us through the powerplay and set up a platform for us. I have worked on it[switch-hits] a lot over the years and it has become a strength for me. I wanted to cash in hitting to the shorter side with the wind going that way as well,” Glenn Maxwell said at the post-match presentation.
I have put in a lot of work with Victoria on my bowling: Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell gained success with the ball in hand as well: he dismissed Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya to dent MI’s batting.
The 32-year-old asserted that he has focussed plenty on his bowling and is now reaping the rewards for it.
“I have put in a lot of work with my state side Victoria on my bowling and starting to see the rewards now. Hopefully, people stay safe, get vaccinated and we can travel around the world safe again,” the Victorian concluded.
With 6 wins in 10 matches, RCB sit at the third spot in the points table. They next take on the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday in Dubai.
