With Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 suffering a roadblock as Kolkata Knight Riders’ two players tested positive for COVID-19, England’s players have received an ultimatum. The much-secure bio-bubble of IPL 2021 came under scrutiny as Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for COVID-19. As per Daily Mail, England Cricket Board said that their players could carry on the tournament and come back and complete it and face ten days of quarantine after returning.

On Monday, Kolkata Knight Riders’ official Twitter handle announced that Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for COVID-19. It forced the BCCI to postpone their clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore later in the day. The crisis deepened when reportedly, three members of Chennai Super Kings’ contingents also testes positive for the disease. But its CEO Kasi Vishwanathan’s report later came out negative.

An England Cricket Board’s spokesperson said that they are monitoring the status and communicating with their players in India. As far as the players’ participation goes, they left it to them and expressed their best wishes for India.

“We continue to monitor and communicate with our players and staff currently in India. In terms of continued participation, it will be a decision taken by each individual. We acknowledge these are challenging times and our thoughts are with the people of India,” a representative said as quoted by Daily Mail.

The likes of Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Billings, Chris Jordan, Jason Roy and Dawid Malan are part of the marquee T20 league. They have not indicated to return before its end. Liam Livingstone was also part of it before returning home, citing bio-bubble fatigue. With the BCCI declaring that the competition will still go ahead, they have copped accusations of continuing amid a massive humanitarian crisis.
