Former England captain, Kevin Pietersen opines that Chris Morris is being over-paid by the Rajasthan Royals according to the services he delivers. The Royals splashed out a huge sum of Rs. 16.25 crore at the February auction making the South African the most expensive player bought at any IPL auction.

Till now in the 4 matches this season, Morris has scored 48 runs and picked 5 wickets, though helping the side complete a chase against Delhi Capitals. Kevin Pietersen says that he wouldn’t have bought the Protea all-rounder for that kind of money.

“This is going to sound harsh, but he went for a lot more money than I would have ever paid for, to be completely honest. I just don’t think that he’s worth that kind of number. I think there’s pressure on him,” Kevin Pietersen said while speaking with Star Sports.

Don’t think he’s the kind of guy that’s going to consistently deliver: Kevin Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen points out that Chris Morris is not even in his national team anymore – the all-rounder hasn’t featured in South African colours since the 2019 World Cup. He feels that because of his price tag, people would be expecting too much from Morris to deliver for the Royals, who have lost 3 of their 4 matches so far.

The 40-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator maintains that Morris doesn’t deliver any special thing to the side, and maybe win a couple of games, but would remain ordinary in most of the season.

“He’s not a first choice for the South African side. So, I think we’re expecting too much. There’s too much talked about him. I don’t think he’s the kind of guy that’s going to consistently deliver. I mean this with the greatest deal of respect.

“There’s nothing special about what he does, and if he does run-in, he’ll run-in for two games. And then he’ll go missing for a few games and it’s not the kind of thing that you should be seeing. He has the attributes,” the former England batsman asserted.

Sanju Samson’s side is placed at the bottom of the points table. They meet Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.
