Former India opener WV Raman has said that batting legend Rahul Dravid will be extremely happy to see Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson bat with such consistency in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) season.

Raman also said that Dravid, who played with Samson in the Rajasthan Royals franchise, has a lot of faith in the young keeper-batter’s abilities. These comments came after Rajasthan Royals captain Samson hit back-to-back half-centuries in the ongoing second leg of the IPL 2021 which is being played in the UAE.

“#RahulDravid will be happy to see @IamSanjuSamson getting runs and making it look easy.. The legend has a lot of faith in the young man…” Raman had tweeted after RR’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sanju Samson In Great Form In IPL 2021, Held The Orange Cap Briefly

The young keeper-batter from Kerala Sanju Samson might have missed out on a spot in the Indian team squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 when the BCCI initially announced a 15-member contingent along with three standby players. The reason behind his exclusion was despite the abundance of talent, consistency has always been an issue with Samson.

However, he has been in terrific form in the second half of the IPL 2021, where he picked off from the first half in India, where he has slammed a century against PBKS in Mumbai. Samson is currently the second-highest run-getter in this year’s IPL with 433 runs in 10 matches at an average of 54.12 and a strike rate of 141.96.

He slammed 70 and 82 in RR’s last two matches but due to lack of support from other batsmen, Rajasthan remained on the losing side on both occasions.

Even in Rajasthan Royals’ previous encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Samson again led from the front, as he slammed 82 runs taking his team to a decent total of 164 on a sticky wicket where free-flowing batsmanship was not possible.

However, his good work was undone by RR bowling unit Sunrisers’ opener Jason Roy scored a brilliant half-century on his SRH debut and then other batsmen including Kane Williamson handed RR a loss by seven wickets.

Rajasthan will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai on September 29, 2021.
