Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is very keen on using its retention cards to hold on to all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, and young opening batsman, Ruturaj Gaikwad. The franchise is also certain of retaining its captain, MS Dhoni, when the IPL 2022 Mega Auction arrives.

For the next season, two new IPL teams will be introduced. The bidding process for the same will begin very soon, with plenty of parties interested to stake a claim. Following that, the mega auction will take place where each franchise is likely to have the option of retaining players, but the exact number hasn’t been confirmed.

Ravindra Jadeja

CSK, the champions of IPL 2021, is looking forward to keeping Jadeja and Gaikwad, sources stated. Gaikwad was the winner of the Orange cap in IPL 2021, scoring 635 runs in 16 matches while opening for the side.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the two players who will be retained, come what may. Dhoni is seriously looking at the retention rules, and if it is three players, he could be the third,” a source was quoted as saying to TOI.

CSK also keen on targeting Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar in IPL 2022 auction

The Chennai franchise is known to bank on experienced seniors. Therefore, the same reliable core group of players will be targeted by the management in the auction. The current bunch of players have won the IPL twice in the last four years and has fallen short once on the final hurdle.

But players like Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis, or even 38-year-old Dwayne Bravo will be targeted by CSK, along with the likes of Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar,” the source added.

A CSK official also confirmed the existence of retention cards and asserted that the first one will be used for the ‘captain of the ship’, Dhoni.

There will be retention, and that is a fact. The number of retentions isn’t something we are aware of yet. But honestly, that is secondary in MS’ case because the first card will be used for him. The ship needs its captain, and rest assured he will be back next year,” the official stated.

Chennai Super Kings recently defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of IPL 2021 to lift their fourth IPL trophy.
