IPL 2021: SRH Pacer Umran Malik Breaks Down Upon Hearing Family's Special Message
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pace bowler Umran Malik was emotional after watching a video of his family wishing him the best on Wednesday. Malik made his debut for SRH against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he became the third bowler after Anrich Nortje and Lockie Ferguson to clock the 150kmph barrier in the IPL 2021 season.
Malik received a message from his family after the debut match. They expressed happiness on his maiden stint in the biggest league in the world. The SRH franchise shared the video on its Twitter page with the caption: “When you make it to one of the biggest stages in Cricket, your family can be nothing but proud.”

“Umran, you have got an opportunity to play in the IPL. Our prayers are always with you. We hope you are happy, wherever you are. Entire Jammu and Kashmir is happy for you,” his father, Abdul Malik, said.
Umran Malik was added to the main squad as a short-term covid-19 replacement for Thangarasu Natarajan. Malik was there only as a net bowler but was subsequently added to the squad before he also got to make his debut.
I pray to almighty that my son continues to excel in his career” – Umran Malik’s father
The youngster hails from Jammu & Kashmir, a place from where India has seen very few cricketers come through. Parvez Rasool is perhaps one of the most successful ones, but Umran Malik will be looking to emulate him. Abdul Malik, Umran’s father, further shared his feelings after his son’s debut.
“It is not an ordinary achievement for us. We are from a poor family. I sell vegetables and fruits to make a living. My son has made me proud. Our joy knows no bounds. Even Lt Governor Sahib has congratulated us. I pray to Almighty that my son continues to excel in his career,” Abdul said.
Although he didn’t pick up a wicket, Umran was impressive with his speeds. He eventually ended with figures of 0/27 but many believe he will start today’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
