Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli was mighty impressed with his side’s performance against the defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI). RCB managed to do the double over MI this season as they inflicted a 54-run defeat.

Harshal Patel pulled off an incredible hattrick in the 17th over of MI’s run chase which asserted RCB’s authority in the match. He had earlier picked up a fifer against MI in the first leg of IPL 2021. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, a delighted Virat Kohli said:

Very happy especially with the way we won. It was a difficult start when we lost Devdutt and Jasprit bowled that second over. I knew he was there in the second over to get me out and get that breakthrough. Bharat came out and played some excellent shots. He took the pressure off me and Maxi was amazing later on.

We got a par score but we could have 10-15 more. To defend it the way we did was unbelievable against a strong batting lineup. I have faced him (Bumrah) a lot in the nets. Sometimes you have to get into the face of the bowler. If you don’t stamp your authority in front of him he will get the better of you. Against world-class bowlers like Jasprit you have to be at your best.

“Tonight I don’t think there were any complaints whatsoever” – Virat Kohli

The skipper termed the performance as a perfect 10/10 but hoped the batting sorts itself out in the death overs. RCB’s only blemish in the game was the last two overs where they scored only 9 runs while losing two wickets.

Tonight I don’t think there were any complaints whatsoever – I will give it a 10 especially with how we were in the field. Maybe with the bat, we left 15 runs out there – including myself, I was in the midst of it when we kind of let it slip. (On bowling Christian in the 16th over) We all had a gut feeling – AB and Maxi as well felt so. We felt that Yuzi could have been taken on by Pollard and Hardik so I went with DC and he bowled an outstanding over before we sealed it,” Kohli added.

The win broke RCB’s 7-match losing streak in the UAE and also took them to 12 points on the table with four games left.
