Punjab Kings (PBKS) batting coach Wasim Jaffer was a happy man after his side defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. The win took PBKS to the fifth spot on the table with two more games left to play.

After restricting KKR to 165/7 courtesy of Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi’s efforts with the ball, PBKS set out to chase the total with a slow approach. Mayank Agarwal got an early reprieve and made the most of it but it was KL Rahul who stood tall.

He fought till the end and perished in the last over but it was enough for the Punjab franchise to sneak over the line. The win gives them a much-needed boost in their quest to qualify for the playoffs and Wasim Jaffer was quite ecstatic about it.

It was very tense as usual. We never make it easy for ourselves, so similar, but glad we came out on the right side of the game. So, very happy we pulled this one off,” Jaffer mentioned.

Shah Rukh Khan is an exciting talent, I’m happy for him – Wasim Jaffer

The PBKS batting coach further praised Shah Rukh Khan, who played a blistering cameo at the fag end to secure the victory for Punjab. Having been benched for the first few games, Shah Rukh was finally given the opportunity and he made it count immediately with a 9-ball 22 against KKR.

He is an exciting talent and he performed against Shahrukh’s team, which is a very unique thing. But I’m happy for him. He worked really hard coming into this game. But really happy that we went over the line finally, so hopefully fingers crossed for the next two games,” Jaffer concluded.

PBKS will have a chance to leapfrog KKR into fourth place when they play against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday in the day game.
