On Friday, MS Dhoni became the first player to play 200 matches for the Chennai Super Kings when he took the field at the Wankhede Stadium against Punjab Kings. MS Dhoni’s 200th appearance for CSK was made special by Deepak Chahar’s 4-wicket haul as the Yellow Army won by 6 wickets to open their account on the IPL 2021 points table.

The Ranchi-born keeper-batsman has led the franchise since the inaugural IPL season. He has played a total of 206 IPL games – 176 for Chennai Super Kings and 30 for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017. He led CSK in 24 more matches in the now-defunct Champions League T20 tournament, which they won twice in 2010 and 2014, apart from 3 IPL titles.

MS Dhoni first feeds a bite of the cake to the coach Stephen Fleming, who has been with CSK since 2008, first as a player then coach. He then shares the cake with other staff members. A huge cheer aroused when ‘Thala’ gave a bite to ‘Chinna Thala’ Suresh Raina – both the players go back a long way having made their India debuts around the same time and been part of great victories for India and for CSK.
