Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar, on Friday, ran riot through the Punjab Kings batting order. The seamer dismissed 4 of the 5 Punjab top-order batters – one was a stupendous run-out by Ravindra Jadeja – and claimed the Man of the Match award for his 4/13 as KL Rahul’s side could manage only 106 runs after Deepak Chahar’s superb opening spell.
The Uttar Pradesh seamer later revealed a funny anecdote that happened after CSK’s loss to Delhi Capitals, where he conceded 36 runs as Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan smacked the CSK bowlers to all parts of the Wankhede.
Deepak Chahar revealed that he got a message from a person on social media requesting the pacer to not play the next game – against Punjab – albeit the user acknowledging that Chahar is a good bowler. The 28-year-old then dedicated his match-winning performance to the same user; he asks fans to support the players, especially when they don’t do well.
“I was watching social media after reaching my room. A boy had texted me saying, ‘Bhai aap bohot acche bowler ho but ek request hai — agla match mat khelna’ (You are a good bowler but I request you to not play the next match). Expectations are very high and performing in every match is important,” Deepak Chahar said in a video on released on the IPL website.
“So, this is for that guy who messaged me. This performance would not have come if I was not playing. Don’t declare a player bad on the basis his one performance. Please support them,” he added.
Deepak Chahar is somebody who has developed as a death overs bowler too: MS Dhoni
Captain MS Dhoni was in all praise of Deepak Chahar’s fitness as he bowled his entire quota of 4 overs on a trot in his opening spell. Dhoni reckons Chahar has improved a lot in the death overs as well, apart from utilizing the new ball in helpful bowling conditions at the front.
Chahar is amongst the fringe players for the T20 World Cup squad – impressive performances in the IPL will do loads of good for his chances to make it to the final squad.
“Chahar is somebody who has developed as a death overs bowler too. If I’m looking to attack and there is movement I try to bowl him out because he gets more out of the pitch. As a bowling unit we have more resources. I was looking to attack, so bowled his four overs and it helps in becoming fit because to bowl 4 successive overs you need to be fit,” the skipper lauded the seamer.
CSK takes on the Rajasthan Royals on Monday at Wankhede. Royals are also coming off a victory by 3 wickets over Punjab.
