IPL 2023: 5 Players That Mumbai Indians (MI) Can Use As Impact Players

The IPL 2023 Auction will be held in Kochi on December 23. The live broadcast of the same will be available on Star Sports while Jio Cinema will live stream the auction online as per reports. All 10 teams have retained their core players within the team They have released a set of unused players in order to bag some more during the upcoming auction. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad have the highest remaining purse of over 40 crores. KKR with 7.05 crores has the least purse remaining. The franchises are looking to fill in a few slots. A total of 991 players are set to go under the hammer in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on December 23.

There are 714 Indian players and 277 overseas players in total. 21 players have registered themselves for a base price of 2 crores all of whom are overseas players.

 During the retentions, the 10 teams retained 163 players in their squad. Now, there are 87 slots available overall during IPL 2023 auction. Meanwhile, the BCCI introduced the ‘Impact Player’ Rule In the upcoming IPL season. The rule was first used as an experiment in the Syed Mushtaq Ali domestic tournament. Upon its success, the BCCI decided to introduce it in the IPL for the very first time. 

The Impact Player rule allows teams to bring in a substitute player in place of any member of the starting XI. Teams taking part in a match will be required to submit the names of four substitutes at the time of toss and teams can only make a change in their playing XI by bringing in a substitute from the list of four players.

Also, the Impact Player can only replace any member of the starting XI before the end of the 14th over of either innings and the player who has been replaced will no longer be allowed to participate in the match. The Impact Player rule is not applicable when the game is reduced to less than 10 overs per side.

Reports in Cricbuzz also say that the ‘Impact Player’ rule is only limited only to Indian players as stated by the BCCI. The decision was taken to ensure that no overseas players are used as impact players since there are already four players allowed to play in the XI. Suryakumar Yadav 

Given that the dimensions of the game will change upon the introduction of the “Impact Player” rule in IPL 2023, Mumbai might SKY as one of their impact players for matches that think are important. The middle-order batter has been in supreme form in T20I cricket throughout the year and might be a trump card for his captain in tough situations.

Rohit Sharma 

The skipper himself might make himself available for the role. Mumbai Indians in the past have played must-win games wherein they have had to win crucial matches to make it to the knockout stage of the IPL. If they face a similar situation during this season, Rohit with his vast experience as a T20I cricketer can make an impact. Recently in the second ODI against Bangladesh, Rohit batted at number nine and almost secured India’s win single-handedly. 

Jasprit Bumrah 

Jasprit Bumrah has been previously used by Mumbai Indians during Super Overs. In the upcoming season, The management can use him as an impact player in close encounters to bowl the tough overs. The Indian pacer is currently not a part of the team and recovering from an injury. He is expected to be fit by the time IPL starts. Bumrah has picked up 145 wickets or Mumbai in 120 games. 

Ishan Kishan 

Kishan has had his best moments in the IPL for Mumbai Indians scoring over 1500 runs since joining them in 2018. The southpaw scored 418 runs for them in the last season and was one of their first-choice players to be retained. Despite being a part of the side, Kishan has not been given too many games recently. However, he has been an impactful player in his career and certainly can live up to that role for Mumbai in IPL 2023.

Tilak Varma

Tilak impressed one and all in his debut season for Mumbai Indians scoring 397 runs for Mumbai Indians in the last season. He anchored the innings from precarious positions for his side and also provided the finish. The management placed immense trust in the youngster and it resulted in the way he played in the last season. Tilak Varma is the last player on this list who can be used as Impact Players by Mumbai Indians.
