The franchise had a dismal IPL outing in the previous edition, wherein they could win just 7 games and finished 6th on the points table.

The main reason can be attributed to the poor captaincy of Mayank Agarwal who could not marshal his troops well. There were a lot of tactical errors on the field by him, which led to Punjab losing close games.

Shikhar Dhawan is one of the few players who has continuously done well despite multiple changes in the lineup. In IPL 2022, while playing for Punjab Kings, the prolific opening batsman maintained his outstanding form and became the franchises leading run-getter. In 14 innings, the left-handed batter scored 460 runs. In most games, he gave the team a strong start. The Punjab franchise will almost certainly want to keep him.

Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal has been a key contributor with the bat for the PBKS team since his arrival. Because of his consistency, PBKS opted to keep him after the TATA IPL 2022 auction and subsequently named him skipper for the following season. He had the worst average among skippers in the current season of the cash-rich league. Mayank had a 16.33 batting average and 196 runs in 12 innings.

Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone was brought by Punjab Kings for 11.50 crores in IPL 2022 mega auction. He has played a better brand of cricket, as expected from him. In fact, Liam Livingston was the second most successful batsman for PBKS in IPL 2022. He accumulated 437 runs in 14 innings at an average of 36.42 and a strike rate of close to 182. Punjab has invested a good amount in this English all-rounder and seeing his performance in IPL 2022, the franchise will surely like to retain Liam Livingstone ahead of IPL 2023 auction.
