IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Teams Which Can Pick Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi was one of the many players released by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023 retention window. The youngster played for the franchise between 2018 to 2022 picking up 30 wickets in 32 games. He was roped in for 7.25 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction, However, his returns were very poor as he only took six wickets in five games at an average of 45.40 and an economy of 10.32.

Shivam Mavi was one of the youngsters from India’s 2018-U 19 World Cup winning squad. Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Porel, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Arshdeep Singh were his teammates from that tournament. While the likes of Gill, Shaw, and recently Arshdeep Singh represented India, Mavi who was one of the strike bowlers for India from that tournament lost into oblivion.

Over the years, his numbers in the IPL have considerably declined. It was a surprising move from KKR to buy him in the last mega auction, which ultimately did not pay off. The franchise finally released him ahead of IPL 2023 and it will be interesting to see if any of the other franchises will show any interest in buying him in. Mumbai have the worthy pace bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer in IPL 2023. While Bumrah did not have the best of seasons, the management bought Archerknowing very well that he will be available only from IPL 2023 as he needed time to recover from his elbow injury.

In a franchise with Bumrah and Archer to learn from, the management can look to buy and nurture him to become of the best bowlers in the country in the future. Hrithik Shokeen, Arshad Khan, and Akash Madhwal are some of the other youngsters in the side.

The Royals might be another franchise interested in buying Shivam Mavi. RR identified the talent of Prasidh Krishna and roped him with them for IPL 2022. The move paid off as he took 19 wickets in his very first season with them. They would hope to do something similar with Mavi who has a lot of potential but it now needs to be backed up with performance.

Knowing the talent and potential of Shivam Mavi, CSK might be another franchise that can be interested in buying him and preparing for a long-term future with the franchise. The likes of Prashant Solanki and Simarjeet Singh are examples of young talent being given the best of opportunity on the biggest stage. With MS Dhoni playing another IPL season, Mavi can look to pick his brain while MSD will surely give his inputs towards becoming a better bowler.
