It will soon be less than 6 days till the IPL 2023 Mini auction starts. On December 23, 405 players will be auctioned off in total. There are 273 Indians and 132 foreign players, of whom 4 are from associate countries. A total of 19 elite people from such a large pool make up the highest bracket slab (INR 2 Crore).
The 2 Crore basic price club does not include any Indian players. The only two Indian players having a base fee of INR 1 crore are Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal. Even seasoned professionals like Chris Lynn and Adil Rashid pushed themselves to at least close a contract for INR 2 crore. The majority of the players in this bracket will start a bidding war, but some might not sell.

IPL 2023 Auction: 5 Overseas Players At INR 2 Crore Base Price Who Might Go Unsold In Mega Auction
Craig Overton
Overton has played for England in 7 ODIs, where he has taken 5 wickets. He has no T20I experience, despite having 70 T20 wickets in the same number of games, therefore he is not a reliable seamer. In the previous The Hundred competition, he was only able to participate in 1 game. Overton has participated in a total of 7 T20 games in 2022, taking 12 wickets. In T20 cricket, Overton averages just 15 runs with a strike rate of 123.

When the IPL 2022 mega-auction was held last year, England bowler Craig Overton positioned himself in the INR 2 crore range but was not purchased. He has once again placed himself in the highest base price category, and none of the teams appear to have good reasons to purchase Overton at such a high price considering that he hasn’t accomplished anything in the period between the two auctions.
Chris Lynn
With Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn created one of the most lethal opening combinations in IPL history from 2017 to 2019. Chris Lynn was playing for KKR at the time. However, since leaving KKR, his stock has fallen sharply. He was acquired by Mumbai Indians for his basic price of 2 crores, however, he only appeared in one game in 2020 since de Kock was out, and he was benched for the whole 2021 season before being released.
When Chris Lynn similarly set his base price of 1.5 crores for the IPL 2022 mega-auction, he remained unsold. Although Lynn frequently competes in franchise competitions all over the world, franchises are unlikely to be interested in his services, especially for 2 crores, given the abundance of younger and more skilled opening alternatives available in India and elsewhere.
Tymal Mills
The left-arm bowler is renowned for his ability to kill batsmen with his death bowls and has proven himself in T20 competitions all around the world. The 30-year-old has appeared in 172 games and taken 198 casualties at an 8.04 economy. At the tail end of the innings, he was selected by the Mumbai Indians to bat with Jasprit Bumrah.
However, Mills was not at his best and was unable to succeed with the ball. The English pitcher got six wickets in five games for MI while averaging 11.18 runs per wicket. The Mumbai franchise benched him after his terrible performances. The ace pacer later withdrew from the competition due to an ankle issue.
Following a middling IPL 2022 season, Mills has struggled to crack England’s starting XI in the bulk of T20Is. The Yorkshire-born man had an opportunity to show off his bowling prowess, but in three overs, he let up 35 runs. One may argue that Mills made a mistake by keeping his base price at INR 2 crore for the IPL 2023 auction because the form has not been on his side.
Tom Banton
When Tom Banton was tearing up bowling lineups for fun in the 2019–20 season with his flamboyant stroke play, he was the in-thing. The wicketkeeper batter entered the international circuit due to his outstanding performances in the T20 circuit, and Kolkata Knight Riders added him to their roster for the 2020 IPL season.
Although Banton scored 18 runs in two games for KKR in the 13th edition of the lucrative T20 event, things have not gone smoothly for the 24-year-old since then. The star hitter has not played in the lucrative league since the Kolkata team decided not to keep him for the next season.
Banton hasn’t been performing at his best lately. He only managed to score 83 runs in six games, with a strike rate of 103.75, in The Hundred 2022. A starting price of INR 2 crore for the young player seems excessive given that the England hitter has not been contributing to the runs.
Jamie Overton
One of the talented bowling all-rounders in the England domestic league is Jamie Overton. The 28-year-old hasn’t exactly impressed in the shortest format, either. Despite having a strike rate of 173.23 and scoring 563 runs in 83 games with the bat, Overton has performed admirably with the ball, taking 67 wickets at an alarming average of 9.37.
It would be difficult for Overton to find a buyer in the next player auction because of his subpar T20 performances, and the fact that the Devon native has maintained his base price of INR 2 crore makes his prospects of playing in the IPL much worse.
