IPL 2023 Auction: Three Overseas Openers Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Can Target

Royal Challengers Bangalore will head into the IPL 2023 Auction with a remaining purse of 8.75 Crores in which to buy seven players and a couple of overseas slots to fill. They released just four players doing very well to retain the core of the side. The side made it to the playoffs but lost out to Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier. The auction will be held on December 23 in Kochi.
For IPL 2023 retention, all the franchises can retain a maximum of 15 players in their squads. All the franchises need to have at least 18 or a maximum of 25 players for the upcoming IPL 2023 season. To further break up the list of players participating in the IPL 2023 auction, the list includes 185 capped, 786 uncapped, and 20 from Associate Nations.

21 players registered for a base price of 2 crores all of whom are overseas players. A total of 991 players have registered themselves for IPL 2023 auction. However, there are only 87 maximum slots left to be picked during the auction. The salary cap has been increased from 90 to 95 lakhs for the upcoming auction.
Speaking about RCB, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis will lead their batting lineup. With Dinesh Karthik, Fin Allen, and Glenn Maxwell they have a good core who can bat till number five. Rajat Patidar is another option who can bat well in the middle order. Barring Kohli and Faf, the franchise does not have any backup opener who can replace either of the two if there is a need to.

Tom Banton
Banton is one of the young and upcoming T20 cricketers. He plays for the England national cricket team and has already played across various T20 leagues, He has played in the IPL, BBL, PSL, The Hundred, and the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Banton has played for just two matches KKR previously in IPL 2020.
The England youngster registered himself for a base price of 2 crores. Having the reputation of being a specialist T20 opener, RCB can look to buy him. He can also keep wickets and thus can be their backup-keeping option.

Travis Head
Head has played for RCB previously in the IPL 2016 and 2017 seasons. Overall, he has played 10 matches scoring 205 runs at an average of 29.29 and s strike rate of 139.81. The southpaw recently played as an opener for Australia in the ODI series against England that they won.
Head missed out on the T20 World Cup squad and can look to revive his T20 career with another good season with RCB. Travis Head registered himself for a base price of 2 crores ahead of the auction.
Cameron Green
Green will be one of the most sort out overseas cricketers in the upcoming auction. Though he is an all-rounder by his traits, he can be used as an opener by the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the T20I series against India before the T20 World Cup, he scored two fifties in the three matches he opened for Australia.
He had scores of 61 and 52 making headlines in the series. Green’s potential as an opener was reflected in that series and since then he has become one of the targeted players in the upcoming auction. There are reports that multiple franchisees are willing to buy him at the auction.
