IPL 2023 has started to make headlines as 15th November is the last date to submit the list of retained players. Delhi Capitals has taken a bold decision by releasing Shardul Thakur ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction. The all-rounder surprisingly failed to make it to the Indian Cricket Team for ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
The next year’s IPL is most likely to be played in home and away venues as in the last edition, all the matches were played in Mumbai and Pune due to Covid-19. The inclusion of 2 new teams in the IPL has taken the tournament to a new level as we have seen a lot of new rivalries in the league which has enlightened the game.
Delhi Capitals on Released Players
The Franchise has taken some tough calls as releasing KS Bharat, Tim Seifert and Shardul Thakur is quite a bold step. Shardul Thakur had taken 15 wickets in 14 matches for DC at the base price of 10.75 Crore.
An IPL source told the reason behind Shardul Thakur’s release from the squad. “Shardul is a premium all-rounder but his price tag was an issue. The others who are set to be released are Hebbar, Mandeep, Seifert and Bharat,” said the source.
Delhi Capitals Invincible
The franchise has made some good progress under head Coach Ricky Ponting. But the team hasn’t been able to win the title which has been haunting them.
Their decision to release Shreyas Iyer proved to be a bit costly as Rishabh Pant wasn’t able to focus on his batting in IPL 2022. It won’t be wrong to say that the team doesn’t have an Indian batter who can stabilize the innings.
Delhi Capitals may buy Shardul Thakur in the auction as the player is a lethal all-rounder. The decision to leave KS Bharat was quite surprising as he is someone who can stick to the crease and play long and effective innings for the team.
Delhi Capitals has shown that they are a force to reckon with and would hope that they cross the finish line this time.
