Mumbai Indians (MI) have appointed domestic cricketing legend J Arunkumar as their assistant batting coach ahead of the forthcoming IPL 2023.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) revealed Arunkumar’s hiring as their new assistant batting coach for the IPL 2023 in a social media post on Wednesday (December 28).

The Mumbai Indians, five-time IPL champions, have hired J Arunkumar as their assistant batting coach. Arunkumar was a dominant player in the domestic circuit in the 1990s and 2000s. Arunkumar played for Karnataka in the Indian domestic circuit for 16 years, from 1993 to 2008, as a right-handed opening batsman with experience in over 100 first-class matches.

After retiring, he began coaching, and during the 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons, he served as the batting coach for the Karnataka team as they won back-to-back championships in the Ranji Trophy, the Irani Cup, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have confirmed J Arunkumar’s appointment:

Arunkumar previously served as the batting coach for the Punjab Kings during the IPL 2017 season. This will be his second appearance in the league.

Arunkumar is notable for having played for Karnataka for 16 years, from 1993 to 2008, and for his 7208 first-class runs. Following his retirement, he began teaching and served as Karnataka’s batting coach, where he won back-to-back Ranji Trophy championships in 2013–14 and 2014–15.

In the 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons, he also assisted Karnataka in winning the Irani Cup and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Arunkumar worked with Hyderabad and Puducherry in domestic cricket in addition to Karnataka. For two years, he served as the men’s national team’s head coach.

Mumbai Indians have become the most consistent team over the past 15 years, winning seven championships, including a record five IPL trophies and two Champions League T20 titles.
