The national selectors once again neglected to include opening batsman Prithvi Shaw in the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.

The two squads were revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, December 27. Shaw was not chosen again, despite the fact that many had anticipated he would play for the team for at least one series.

The selectors frequently overlook the right-handed batsman. In July 2021, he played against Sri Lanka in his final game for his country. The rise of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill looks to have moved him down the pecking order, despite his strong performances in domestic cricket.

The current Ranji Trophy 2022–23 season is notable because Prithvi Shaw is actively competing in it. To date in the competition, he hasn’t been in great shape, managing only 42 runs at an average of 10.50 in four innings.

But in this year’s domestic white-ball tournaments, the Mumbai batter had a huge impact. Shaw amassed 217 runs from 7 innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, including two outstanding half-centuries.

@BCCI @ImRo45 it does feel strange to see @klrahul in the team inspite of so many flop shows. Why is he being given so many chances. What wrong has @IamSanjuSamson did to not find a place in ODI. Why no @PrithviShaw? If fitness is the criteria, then what about the captain.

Prithvi Shaw was unable to make India’s T20I squad because the team management decided to use in-form opener, Shubman Gill, in both the longest and shortest formats.

Gill has been rewarded for his impressive performances in ODIs and Test matches. Apart from Shaw, several other notable names were absent from India’s squad for the Sri Lanka series.
