Nicholas Pooran became an expensive player in the IPL auction 2023 after Lucknow Super Giants bought the West Indies player for Rs. 16 crores during the auction. Pooran was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad last season and will commence a new journey with Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023.

Nicholas Pooran has been part of IPL since the 2019 season. Over the years, he has played 47 games in the tournament and scored 912 runs at an average of 26.06. While Pooran will be a crucial player for LSG, he might fail to come up with a good show in IPL 2023. Here we take a look at 3 reasons why Nicholas Pooran will be a flop in IPL 2023.

3. Poor Batting Strike Rate in 2022

Since 2019, Pooran has failed to keep a high strike rate in T20Is. Playing for West Indies, Pooran had a batting strike rate of 109+ in 2019 and 116+ in 2020. This slightly bettered to 130+ in 2021 and 2022.

However, this might not be enough for a good show in IPL. If Pooran continues with a low strike rate in IPL 2023, his batting might totally flop for Lucknow Super Giants.

If we take a look at Nicholas Pooran’s IPL career, it has been quite inconsistent. He came up with a poor show in IPL 2019 when he piled up 168 runs in 7 games. However, he excelled in the next season IPL 2020, smashing 353 runs in 14 games.

Later, he totally flopped in IPL 2021, hitting just 85 runs across 12 games. He was better in the last season, scoring 306 runs in 14 games. Hence, Pooran has been very inconsistent with his batting in IPL. Hence in IPL 2023, there is a chance that he might again fail with the bat.

1. Less Opportunities With LSG in IPL 2023

Nicholas Pooran is a wicketkeeper batsman. If we take at the Lucknow Super Giants squad, they have a powerful wicketkeeper, Quinton de Kock, with them. It is highly unlikely that the team will drop Quinton de Kock during IPL 2023.

Hence, Pooran will not be the primary choice of wicketkeeper for the team. He might also be dropped for De Kock in the playing XI. Hence, if Pooran does not get enough opportunities in IPL 2023 with LSG, he might not be able to come up with a good show.
