IPL Auction 2023: 5 Most Overrated Players In The 2 Crore Base Price. Many cricketers in the past had incredible promise at the international level but fell short of expectations in the IPL. It is well known that playing in a bilateral series is significantly different from donning the IPL uniform and representing your team in front of millions of Indian people.

On December 23, 405 players will be auctioned off in total. There are 273 Indians and 132 foreign players, of whom 4 are from associate countries. A total of 19 elite people from such a large pool make up the highest bracket slab (INR 2 Crore).

The 2 Crore basic price club does not include any Indian players. The only two Indian players having a base fee of INR 1 crore are Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal. Even seasoned professionals like Chris Lynn and Adil Rashid pushed themselves to at least close a contract for INR 2 crore. The majority of the players in this bracket will start a bidding war, but some might not sell.

Let’s Have a look at 5 most overrated players in the 2 CR base price in the 2023 IPL Mini Auction:

IPL Auction 2023: 5 Most Overrated Players In The 2 Crore Base Price

Craig Overton

In his 7 ODI appearances for England, Overton has claimed 5 wickets. Despite having 70 T20 wickets in the same amount of games, he lacks T20I experience, making him an unreliable seamer. He was limited to one game during the previous round of The Hundred. In 7 T20 matches overall in 2022, Overton has taken 12 wickets. Overton averages only 15 runs with a 123 strike rate in T20 cricket.

England bowler Craig Overton put himself in the INR 2-crore area at the IPL 2022 mega-auction last year, but he wasn’t bought. He’s positioned himself in the highest base price bracket once more, and none of the clubs seem to have compelling reasons to pay that much for Overton given that he hasn’t done anything in the time between the two auctions.

Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn formerly served as a representative for many IPL teams. Before wearing the jerseys of the SunRisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians, Lynn began his career with the Deccan Chargers. For the Mumbai franchise’s game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021, he made his final IPL appearance.

With 42 matches under his belt and 1,329 runs scored at an average of 34.08, Lynn has a respectable record in the IPL.
The Australian star’s greatest league score is 93, but his recent play hasn’t been great.

In terms of his recent outings, Lynn didn’t reach the 40-run threshold in his eight innings pitched for Team Abu Dhabi in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Not many clubs would be interested in his services this year because his base price for the IPL 2023 Auction is likewise 2 crore, as is the case this year.

Rassie van der Dussen

In recent years, Rassie van der Dussen has played a significant role in South Africa. He has made a name for himself as a player with the capacity to play both the finisher and the anchor roles. Rassie has scored 1044 runs at an average of 36 in 41 T20Is.

The middle-order batsman has 1525 runs at a fantastic average of 69.31 in 38 ODIs. His skill in the white-ball forms is well demonstrated by the data. Rassie, meanwhile, has little prior experience competing in franchise T20 competitions.

Rassie played for Rajasthan Royals in three IPL games in 2022, although he only managed to score 22 runs in three innings. One of the primary factors in his failure to find any buyers at the auction may be his inability to play quickfire innings.

Kane Williamson

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson had taken over the captaincy duties of Sunriisers Hyderabad (SRH) midway through IPL 2021, from Australia’s David Warner. The change of captaincy did not change their fortunes as SRH finished bottom of the league in 2021.

In 2022, SRH once again missed out on a playoff spot, finishing eighth out of 10 teams with just 12 points. Williamson even struggled with the bat earlier this year for SRH, scoring just 216 runs from 13 matches, at a strike rate of just 93.51 and an average of less than 20.

Williamson’s strike rate has not been up to the mark in recent matches, and that might lead to franchises overlooking the 32-year-old.

Tymal Mills

The left-arm bowler has established himself in T20 tournaments all around the world and is recognized for his ability to murder batsmen with his death bowling. The 30-year-old has taken 198 casualties at an 8.04 economy while playing in 172 games. He was chosen by the Mumbai Indians to bat with Jasprit Bumrah at the conclusion of the innings.

Mills, meanwhile, was not at his best and had little luck with the ball. With an average of 11.18 runs per wicket, the English pitcher took six wickets in five games for MI. He was benched by the Mumbai franchise due to his awful performances. Later, the top pacemaker pulled out of the race because of an ankle problem.

After a mediocre IPL 2022 campaign, Mills has had trouble breaking into England’s starting XI for the majority of T20Is. The man from Yorkshire got a chance to showcase his bowling skills, but in three overs, he allowed 35 runs. Given that his form has not been favorable, one may argue that Mills erred by setting his base price for the IPL 2023 auction at INR 2 crore.
