Australia all-rounder Cameron Green was bought by five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) for 17.5 crore during the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction on Friday. The 23-year-old is the second-most expensive buy in the history of the auction. Green will join MI ahead of the upcoming edition of the IPL tournament.

English players were in high demand during the mini-auction, and Punjab Kings bought young all-rounder Sam Curran, who became the most expensive all-rounder in IPL history for Rs. 18.50 crore. England Test captain Ben Stokes was also bought by Chennai Super Kings for a whopping price of 16.50 crore.

Stokes Offers Leadership Option As Well – Wasim Jaffer

Former Punjab Kings batting coach Wasim Jaffer said he’s surprised that Cameron Green has gone for more than Ben Stokes in the IPL auction 2023. Indian domestic great believes Green is expected to be the player Stokes “already is,” adding that the latter also offers a leadership role.

“Must say I’m surprised that Cam Green has gone for more than Ben Stokes. Purely because Ben Stokes is already the player one expects Cam Green to be later in his career. Plus Stokes offers leadership option as well. #IPLAuction,” Jaffer wrote on his official Twitter account.

During his interaction with Star Sports show Cricket Live – Auction Special, Green said, “I’m pinching myself that this has all happened. It’s such a weird feeling watching an auction for yourself. I can’t believe how nervous I was and I was shaking like anything when the final call was confirmed. I’ve always been a huge fan of the IPL and it’s going to be so cool to be a part of it. The Mumbai Indians are one of the powerhouses of the competition so I feel very humbled to be joining them. I can’t wait to get there next year.”
