Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Chandrakant Pandit compared Rinku Singh’s incredible five-sixes off the final over against Gujarat Titans (GT) to iconic innings from cricket’s past.
With 28 runs needed off the last five balls, Rinku Singh blasted 5 consecutive sixes to take his side home. This is the most runs a player has scored in a successful chase in IPL
After coaching Madhya Pradesh to their first Ranji Trophy win in 2022, the former wicketkeeper-batsman was appointed by KKR as their head coach. Known for his incredible man management, he has now coached this Knight Riders team to two wins in three matches.

In a video released on KKR’s Twitter, Pandit compared Rinku Singh’s amazing feat to some of the most iconic moments in cricket history, saying
“In 43 years of my cricket career, being coach, playing cricket, first class cricket and international, I’ve previously seen two innings. One is Ravi Shastri scoring six sixes in the Ranji Trophy, and second was last ball sixes by Javed Miandad in Dubai and after that I’m seeing you.”

The first moment he referenced in that speech was when Ravi Shastri became only the second player in professional cricket to hit six-6s in an over, which he did in the 1984-85 Ranji trophy season against Baroda.

The second was Javed Miandad hitting a six on the last ball against India in the final of the 1985-86 Austral-Asia Cup in Dubai.
KKR captain Nitish Rana at loss for words to describe Rinku Singh’s innings
In the post-match press conference, KKR captain Nitish Rana was at a loss for words to describe Rinku Singh’s 21-ball-48 innings against GT.
Despite Venkatesh Iyer’s fiery knock of 83 runs off 40 balls being Kolkata’s highest individual score in their last match, it is Rinku’s innings that people will remember for ages, solely because of his last over antics.
Rana, while commenting on the pre-match chatter about Rinku Singh’s role in the squad, said –
“Reporters had asked me the other day, why Rinku does not play a bigger role. If this is his secondary role, then imagine what he can do in a primary role. I do not have words to describe Rinku’s innings.”
On the back of Rinku Singh’s match-winning knock, KKR will look to keep the ball rolling when they face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 14
