Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a great outing with the bat in hand after electing to bat first against Mumbai Indians (MI). RR posted a gigantic score of 212-7. MI skipper Rohit Sharma was quite dejected as the bowlers conceded 69 runs in the last 5 overs and took 3 wickets. Rohit Sharma perhaps made a mistake by keeping only one over of Jofra Archer during the death overs as Arshad Khan gave away 31 runs in the last 2 overs but also took 2 scalps

RR’s flamboyant left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a belligerent ton and scored 124 runs in 62 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal was in beast mode as he struck 16 fours & 8 huge sixes. Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal, not a single batter scored 20-odd runs which was quite surprising.

MI gave away 25 extras which are unacceptable in modern cricket. The veteran leg spinner Piyush Chawla was the pick of the bowlers who took 2 scalps and gave away only 34 runs in his 4 overs spell. The trio of Cameron Green, Jofra Archer & Riley Meredith were taken to the cleaners.

Sandeep Sharma cleans up Rohit Sharma

In response to the 213 target, MI had a pretty decent start to their run chase as they scored 12 runs in the first over against Trent Boult. Sandeep Sharma, the right-arm pacer was bowling the 2nd over. Wicket-keeper Sanju Samson came up to the stumps, on the last delivery of Sandeep Sharma’s over Rohit Sharma went a bit across & tried to play the shot towards the covers region but missed the ball completely and got cleaned up.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma would be crestfallen as his scratchy run continues in IPL 2023. Rohit Sharma was dismissed on 3 runs in 5 balls and at the end of 2 overs, MI’s score was 14-1. RR would be pumped up as Rohit Sharma could have inflicted a lot of damage.

Steep Road Ahead for MI

MI need Ishan Kishan to play an attacking brand of cricket and make the power-play count as the required run rate is close to 12. Cameron Green perhaps will have to go berserk from ball 1 as during the middle overs Ashwin & Chahal can spurn a web.

Sanju Samson would be aware of the fact that MI don’t have a powerful lower middle order as a couple of wickets can put them in the ascendancy. The role of Jason Holder would be quite decisive in this clash as he can fox the batters with his foxy variations.
