Tilak Varma, on Sunday (April 2), starred with the bat to save Mumbai Indians from embarrassment in their ongoing clash IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians were off to a horrific start as RCB pacers had them reeling at 20 for 3. With the likes of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green already back in the hut, Mumbai Indians were in deep trouble when Tilak Varma came out to bat. Mumbai soon found themselves in more trouble when Suryakumar Yadav failed to deliver too.

With the team reeling at 48 for 4 after Suryakumar’s departure in the 9th over, a good score was looking almost impossible for the 5-time champions. However, the left-handed batsman stood firm at one end and guided Mumbai to a competitive total of 171 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs.

With wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end, Tilak Varma did not take too many risks early on. However, he went berserk in the final overs of the innings as he helped Mumbai Indians collect as many as 60 runs from the final 4 overs.

Tilak Varma scored 37 of those 60 runs from only 15 balls. He eventually remained unbeaten on 84 off 46 balls. The highly-rated batsman’s knock was studded with 9 fours and 4 sixes.
My plan was to adjust to the wicket and see how it was doing. It was holding a bit. So, I took my time initially and then see how it goes. My mindset was positive and I was constantly talking to my partners and asking them what a good score would be,” Varma said after his knock.
And as Varma played yet another impressive knock for MI in the IPL, the Indian cricket fraternity lavished praise on him.
