Continuing his fine form in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rinku Singh, on Thursday (May 4), once again proved his worth by top-scoring for Kolkata Knight Riders in their ongoing clash against SRH at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The left-handed batsman once again walked out to bat when his team was in a precarious situation. KKR decided to bat first after winning the toss but could not start well with the bat. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out for a first-ball duck while Jason Roy (20) and Venkatesh Iyer (7) could not get going either.
Rinku Singh walked out to bat in just the 5th over when Kolkata Knight Riders were reeling at 35 for 3 and helped the team post a challenging total of 171 for 9. He top-scored for the two-time IPL champions, scoring 46 off 35 balls with the help of 4 fours and a six.
He and Nitish Rana steadied the ship by sharing a 61-run stand for the fourth wicket. After Rana’s dismissal, KKR kept losing wickets at crucial junctures but Rinku remained firm at his end to guide his team to a 150-plus total.
Abdul Samad’s brilliant catch to dismiss Rinku Singh:
Rinku Singh’s knock came to an end in the very final over of the innings thanks to a stunning diving catch from Abdul Samad. On the second ball of the 20th over, left-arm pacer T Natarajan failed to nail his yorker and ended up bowling a low full-toss to the batsman.
Rinku Singh went for the big shot towards deep mid-wicket although he could not make a good connection. In the meantime, Abdul Sama ran in and timed his dive perfectly to take a fine catch.
