Fazalhaq Farooqi missed an easy run-out chance in the ongoing game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals as the latter posted a huge total.
Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson scored impressive fifties to help the Royals begin their IPL 2023 campaign with a stunning batting display. Riding on the fifties from the trio, the inaugural IPL winners smashed 203 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs.

Buttler and Jaiswal came out all guns blazing after SRH won the toss and decided to bat first. The duo added 85 runs in just 35 balls for the first wicket before Fazalhaq dismissed Buttler to give SRH a much-needed breakthrough. It was followed by a 54-run stand between Jaiswal and Samson. Towards the end, Shimron Hetmyer’s 22-run cameo helped RR cross the 200-run mark.
Comedy of errors from Fazalhaq Farooqi
Rajasthan Royals’ innings ended on an amusing note thanks to Fazalhaq Farooqi making a mess of an easy run-out chance. The incident took place on the 4th ball of the final over bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi himself.

On the fourth ball, he bowled a full delivery outside the off stump to Shimron Hetmyer. The West Indies batsman opened the face of his bat and hit the ball towards Mayank Agarwal at sweeper cover. Hetmyer decided to take a double although his partner Ravichandran Ashwin was clearly not ready.
Ashwin, however, eventually obliged and decided to run for the second run. In the meantime, Agarwal collected the ball and threw it at the non-striker’s end where Fazalhaq Farooqi missed an extremely easy chance to run Ashwin out. The bowler made a series of mistakes, thus letting the batsmen complete the second run.
The first mistake was clearly not standing behind the stumps. He stood in front of the stumps before failing to collect the ball. Ashwin was not even in the frame when Fazalhaq Farooqi failed to collect the ball. Had he managed to collect the ball, Ashwin would have been run out by a good distance. Unsurprisingly, Agarwal was perplexed with the bowler’s effort while Ashwin was all smiles after surviving the run-out scare.
