DC vs CSK Scorecard, IPL 2024, Match 13 Highlights: Mukesh Kumar's ice-cold nerves steal the game for Delhi Capitals despite MS Dhoni's carnage

The match 13th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 took place between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (31st March). The match between the two teams took place at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. 

Delhi Capitals finally registered a win in the IPL 2024 after facing two back-to-back losses in their first two games. They defeated Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs and bagged important two points under their belt at their new home ground in Visakhapatnam. 

DC vs CSK IPL 2024 Match 13 – Delhi Capitals innings: David Warner, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw star with bat for Delhi 

Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bat first at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Their opening batters in Prithvi Shaw and David Warner made sure that their decision proved to be the right one as they came out all guns blazing. 

David Warner (52) and Prithvi Shaw (43) batted tremendously well at the start and added 93 runs for the opening partnership. They put Chennai Super Kings bowlers under immense pressure and hardly put a foot wrong in their innings till the time they were batting at the crease. 

Rishabh Pant, who came to bat at No.3, looked scratchy at the top. Whereas Mitchell Marsh (18) perished after a valiant start with the bat. Matheesha Pathirana then brought Chennai Super Kings back in the game as he picked two quick wickets to leave Delhi in totters. 

It was then that Rishabh Pant found his mojo back and made sure that they took his team to the big total. The keeper-batter gave glimpses of his old best as he took Chennai Super Kings bowlers to the cleaners and smashed sixes and fours all over the park in Visakhapatnam. 

He scored 51 runs and his innings turned out to be crucial for the team. Delhi Capitals ended with a total of 191 runs on the board. For Chennai Super Kings, Matheesha Pathirana picked three wickets whereas Mustafizur Rahman and Ravindra Jadeja bagged one scalp each.

DC vs CSK IPL 2024 Match 13 – Chennai Super Kings innings: Ajinkya Rahane and MS Dhoni’s cameo goes in vain as CSK fail to chase the target 

Chennai Super Kings didn’t have a great start to his innings as skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (1) and Rachin Ravindra (2) looked clueless against the new ball bowling of Khaleel Ahmed. The pacer removed both the openers to take his team off the flyer. 

After that, Ajinkya Rahane (45) kept his team in the hunt and played some crisp shots in his innings. Daryl Mitchell (34) supported him well as the duo added 68 runs together. But as they got out, things looked difficult for Chennai Super Kings in the game. 

Shivman Dube (18) and Sameer Rizvi struggled to get going as Chennai Super Kings was left tottering at 120/6. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja then fought tooth and nail and made sure that they took their team close to the target of 192 runs. 

MS Dhoni scored 37 whereas Jadeja ended 21 with Chennai failing to chase the target. They ended with 171/6 and lost the game by 20 runs to suffer their first loss of the season.
