The veteran Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik who has turned into an already renowned commentator and expert analyst, is all set to take a short break away from his commentary duties in order to prepare for the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League edition, which is set to start from March 22nd onwards. He will be keeping the stumps for Royal Challengers Bangalore who will be in action against Chennai Super Kings in the opening clash.
Dinesh Karthik has been actively covering the ongoing 5-match Test series between India and England, which is at its closing juncture with the 4th Test in Ranchi. The Indian contingent might be in a tricky situation at the moment but a victory and a chance to triple their lead does not look far-fetched.
Other than doing commentary, Karthik has also been doing a show called The Chatter with Cricbuzz on their respective X (formerly Twitter) where he usually appears with some former cricketers and dissects performances and talks on various aspects of the game.
Dinesh Karthik set to play for DY Patil B in DY Patil T20 tournament
The 38-year-old is all set to represent the DY Patil B team in the DY Patil T20 tournament which features a total of 16 teams being divided into a group of 4 teams respectively. Dinesh Karthik had played the event for the same team last year as well in which he scored 138 runs from 4 matches at a strike rate of over 160.
He captained the DY Patil B team towards the finale where they lost against the Reliance 1 team which was a match that went down the wire and ended up becoming one of the most exciting matches of the tournament ever. This year, the wicket-keeper batsman will mainly look to sharpen his skills and attain positive momentum heading into IPL 2024.
The DY Patil T20 tournament will also feature some star players like Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, and Piyush Chawla among others. Last year, Karthik’s team had some exciting young prospects like Yash Dhull, Shams Mulani, and Chirag Jani and it will be an interesting edition to watch out for this time around.
This T20 tournament was held in February last year and provided a good breeding ground for former Indian national team players like Piyush Chawla and Dinesh Karthik himself. The latter then went on to score 140 runs from 11 matches for RCB in IPL 2023 with the South Indian outfit finishing 6th in the points table.
Karthik to miss commentary in the 5th Dharamshala Test
With his commitments for the DY Patil B team, Dinesh Karthik will not be returning to commentate in the 5th and series concluding Test match between India and England. The final match is set to get underway from 7th March onwards at the scenic venue of HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala.
The beautiful stadium built around the mountains of Himalayas, has hosted only 1 Test match way back in 2017 when Australia had come on tour for the Border-Gavaskar trophy. The surface over there was favorable for batting only in the first two innings but as the days proceeded, it became tough to bat on with India claiming the victory there by 8 wickets.
